String Along was released in 1960. It was their fifth studio album in a row to reach number one on the Billboard charts and remained there for ten weeks. It was the last LP of the Trio to reach the number one spot. Two singles, Bad Man Blunder and Everglades were released. Both were the last singles of the Guard years Trio to chart. Sold Out was released in 1960.

It was their third LP to reach #1, stayed there for twelve weeks, and received a gold certification the same year. El Matador was its lead-off single, though it just made the Top 40. Sold Out remained in the Top 40 for 54 weeks, longer than any Trio album. The version of Raspberries, Strawberries included is a remake of the Trio's follow-up single to Tom Dooley. The Last Month of the Year is
considered the Kingston Trio's most musically ambitious and also one of the their least known. It was recorded in 1960. Nick Reynolds stated in an interview: "It wasn't your standard Christmas album. That's why we called it The Last Month of the Year. It was a pretty complicated little album, some very intricate stuff. Dave Guard brought in a lot of the arrangements with stuff like bouzouki instrumentation. David Wheat, the trio's bassist, played some wonderful guitar. We really worked hard on that one, laying down a lot of the instrumental tracks before we did the vocals, working on harmonies over and over. David was responsible for a lot of that album, but we all brought things in. Musically, it came off very well; it just didn't sell."
Make Way is the ninth album by the Kingston Trio, released in 1961. It reached number two on the Billboard charts, despite there being no US singles released from the album. En El Agua was released as a B-side in the US but as an A-side in Great Britain. Goin' Places was their tenth album, released in 1961. It peaked at number three on the Billboard charts and spent 41 weeks in the Top 40. The lead-off single
was You're Gonna Miss Me, a new arrangement of Frankie and Johnny.It's B-side was En El Agua. Goin' Places was the last album recorded with Dave Guard as a member.
The day after the completion of the Goin' Places recording sessions, the Trio embarked on their first foreign tour. After their return, Guard announced his intention to resign from the group. Guard stated in numerous interviews he left the Trio for two main reasons: He was upset with a discrepancy in publishing royalties and he felt the Trio needed to grow musically. The other members, Nick Reynolds and Bob Shane, disagreed on both counts. Guard stayed on to fulfill the group's concert commitments through November and Reynolds and Shane, having decided to keep the group going, hired John Stewart as Guard's replacement.
Guard later formed the Whiskeyhill Singers, which disbanded after one Capitol album and virtually no success. In an interview for Frets magazine in 1984 Reynolds stated: "Basically, David wanted to take it on to another level. Bobby and I were just hangin' out, having a good time. We were happy with the format and working way too hard to consider sitting down and learning how to read music... We were killing ourselves as it was with the work, and David was insisting that we take lessons. He was also upset about the publishing thing, and didn't think people were taking care of business, and he became dissatisfied with everything from photography to the management. It might have been an overreaction on Dave's part, but I believe that he honestly wanted to take it to a higher plane..."

The Kingston Trio was organized in spring 1957 by Dave Guard( died March 22, 1991), Bob Shane, and Nick Reynolds (died October 1, 2008). In the history of popular music, there are a relative handful of performers who have redefined the content of the music at critical points in history, people whose music left the landscape, and definition of popular music, altered completely. The Kingston Trio were one such group, transforming folk music into a hot commodity and creating a demand that none had existed before.

The group's first selftitled album was recorded over a three day period in February 1958 and released in June the same year just as the Trio was beginning its engagement at the Hungry I. The song selections reflected the repertoire that the musicians had been working on for two years—re-imagined traditional songs, calypso-flavored tunes, and a mix of both foreign language and contemporary songwriter numbers. The album sold moderately well, including on-site sales at the Hungry I during the Kingston Trio's engagement there through the summer, but it was DJ Paul Colburn at station KLUB in Salt Lake City whose enthusiasm for a single cut on the record spurred the next development in the group's history. Colburn began playing Tom Dooley extensively on his show, prompting a rush of album sales in the Salt Lake area by fans who wanted to listen to the song, as yet unavailable as a single record. Colburn called other DJs around the country urging them to do the same, and national response to the song was so strong that a reluctant Capitol Records finally released the tune as a 45rpm single on August 8, 1958; it reached the #1 spot on the Billboard chart by late November, sold a million copies by Christmas, and was awarded on January 21, 1959. Tom Dooley also spurred the debut album to a #1 position on the charts (the first album by a group to reach the top spot), earned the band a gold record for the album, and remained charted on Billboard's weekly reports for 195 weeks. The success of the album and the single earned the Kingston Trio a Grammy award for Best Country & Western Performance at the awards' inaugural ceremony in 1959. At the time, no folk music category existed in the Grammy's scheme. The next year, largely as a result of the Kingston Trio and Tom Dooley, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences instituted a folk category and the Trio won the first Grammy Award for Best Ethnic or Traditional Folk Recording for its second studio album At Large. This was the beginning of a remarkable three year run for the Trio in which their first five studio albums achieved #1 chart status and gold records and by 1961 had earned more than $25 million for Capitol, roughly $180 million in 2010. Notably, the Kingston Trio was responsible for 15% of Capitol's total sales when Capitol also recorded Frank Sinatra and Nat King Cole; both artists were also producing high-charting profitable albums. One indication of the Kingston Trio's popularity during this era was that for five consecutive weeks in November and December of 1959, four Kingston Trio albums ranked in the top ten of Billboard Magazine's Top LPs chart,an accomplishment unmatched by any artist before or since. The Trio also charted several single records during this time, made numerous television appearances, and played upwards of 200 engagements per year.

1985's Labyrinth is a pretty rare cd. Cesar Zuiderwijk participated in this one-time jazz project with jazz keyboarder Jasper van't Hof and singer Julya Loko.
This one is still dedicated to our Dutch friends out there.

Wayne Perkins (born 1951, David Wayne Perkins in Birmingham, Alabama) is a rock and R & B guitarist, singer, songwriter and session musician. At age 15, Perkins played his first gig as a session musician, in Bob Grove's Prestige Recording Studio in Birmingham. At 16, he left school and started performing in local bands and released singles with a band called the Vikings with Charles Nettles.
In 1968, drummer Jasper Guarino helped Perkins land a steady job as a session guitarist in a studio owned by Quin Ivy called "Quinvy's" in Muscle Shoals. This led to work at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio.
Wayne left session work to form a band called Smith, Perkins and Smith which recorded two albums. While in Kingston in the Island Basing Street recording studios Perkins had been working on a second Smith Perkins Smith album for Island when Chris Blackwell stopped him. When Perkins returned to the United States, he played with Leon Russell for two years, in the Gap Band and with Eric Clapton and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Following this, Wayne joined the Alabama Power Band (formed by his brother Dale), which became Crimson Tide and recorded two albums. In Nashville, Wayne wrote music for Catdaddy Music and composed soundtracks for films including The Karate Kid, Part II and Back to School. Perkins later formed the band Problem Child with Robert Nix and Rick Christian, and played bass with Lonnie Mack.
In 1995, Perkins recorded his first solo album, Mendo Hotel, and in 2005, he released Ramblin' Heart.

Black Tie - When the Night Falls

Black Tie was a country-rock band that featured Billy Swan, Bread's Jimmy Griffith, and Randy Meisner, formerly of the Eagles. Black Tie's lone release was a 1985 covers collection entitled When the Night Falls. While the project was quite brief, it did produce a minor charting hit in a country-fried cover of Buddy Holly's Learning the Game.

By 1979 the group had moved over to CBS and put out Ozark Mountain Daredevils in May 1980. This album did not feature Chappell or Canaday, and Walle only appeared on two songs, since producer Boylan insisted on bringing in session players for a more typical California country rock laid back sound that was popular at the time. But the country rock sound's popularity seemed to be on the wane at the dawn of the 80's as groups like the Ozarks saw their sales begin to slip away. CBS dropped the group after only one record.
In 1985, the band followed their erstwhile singer/drummer, Larry Lee, to Nashville to record a new album produced by Wendy Waldman. Lee briefly rejoined for this project, but Chowning quit again during the recording and once the album was finished, there was, surprisingly, no interest at all from any of the labels in Nashville. A small French company, Dixie Frog Records, eventually picked up the record and it was released in France as Heart of the Country in 1987. Many of the same songs were released in England in 1989 as Modern History on the Conifer label.
New Era Productions, a company formed by an old Springfield buddy of the group's, Benny Smith, agreed to fund another album of brand new material, 13. This was produced, mostly in Nashville, by Larry Lee, who played and sang on it as well. 13 was released in June 1997.
Also that year came Archive Alive, a live album. This CD features a selection of recordings taken from around 1973 at the Cowtown Ballroom in Kansas City and the Kiel Opera House in St. Louis. This CD only includes songs written and played up until March 1973. Although it does feature songs which would appear on future album releases.
2003 saw the release of the remastered Lost Cabin Sessions with long lost recordings that were made during their early days together. Sometime during that period, they assembled a little eight-track studio in Springfield, and recorded 28 songs over a thirteen-hour day. The recordings on this CD represent that period, before the band even had a name. These are the recordings that impressed A&M enough to sign them to a long-term contract.

The Ozark Mountain Daredevils are a country rock band formed in 1972 in Springfield, Missouri. They are most widely known for their singles If You Wanna Get To Heaven and Jackie Blue.
The first record, Ozark Mountain Daredevils (also referred to as The Quilt Album), was released in December 1973 and spawned the Top 30 hit If You Wanna Get to Heaven in the summer of '74. The album introduced the band's unique mixture of country & rock to the world and is still the favorite of many of the group's fans.
For the second album, It'll Shine When in Shines (Fall 1974), Glyn Johns and David Anderle came to Missouri to record, utilizing a mobile recording truck set up outside of the band's rehearsal home. During the sessions, Johns overheard Larry Lee sitting at a piano playing and singing a song about a mysterious friend of his who sometimes dealt drugs on the side. Johns loved the melody and thought it could be a smash hit if the lyrics were altered to be about a girl and the drug references downplayed. Lee and Cash did as Johns asked and the song, Jackie Blue, became the Daredevil's signature song and a huge hit in early 1975.
The Ozark's third release, The Car Over the Lake Album (Fall 1975), produced by Anderle alone, featured their old compatriot, Bill Jones, joining them to play and arrange their songs. Another face from the past, Steve Canaday, also came back into the group's life at this same time as road manager and opening act before joining the band in 1976. The album sold fairly well but produced no hits. One reason why the band's fortunes began to falter might have been their reluctance to relocate to Southern California after being asked to do so by A&M co-head Jerry Moss. Personnel shifts within the group also began to change the chemistry. Randle Chowning left in May 1976, after a falling out with the others, to form his own Randle Chowning Band. Norwegian musician Rune Walle then joined to replace him.
That same year the Daredevils headed to the Caribou Ranch, Colorado to record their fourth album which they'd originally titled Nuclear Fishin ' but then changed to Men From Earth after A&M objected. The Nuclear Fishin ' title was later used up in Canada for a greatest hits pack. Anderle was once again in the producer's chair and Jerry Mills joined the band on mandolin and also served as the group's advance publicist.
In the fall of '76, Buddy Brayfield departed to study medicine and Ruell Chappell from the popular Springfield group Spillwater Junction came in. But the band's next several releases, Men From Earth (Fall 1976), Don't Look Down (Fall 1977) and It's Alive (September 1978) sold in lesser quantities than their previous records had. Jerry Mills and his mandolin were dropped from the group after It's Alive since the band were performing less acoustic numbers in their show by this time.

The share includes both the remastered German release Die Mensch-Maschine and the remastered International release The Man-Machine.

Albert Hammond was born in London, where his family had been evacuated from Gibraltar during WW II. His family returned to Gibraltar shortly after his birth, where he grew up. In 1966 Hammond co-founded the British vocal group, The Family Dogg together with Steve Rowland and Mike Hazlewood. They were scoring a UK hit with A Way of Life in 1969. Hammond later moved to the US, where he continued his career as a musician. Recently I've listened to his first two albums and I must say he were a poor guy. This is a good example how record companys burned artists to ash. Albert simply is no Cat Stevens, Roger McGuinn or Paul McCartney! If You Gotta Break Another Heart and The Peacemaker are simply Cat Stevens remakes, Brand New Day is a Byrds/Bob Dylan tune and The Air That I Breath is a Beatles styled number. It seems Columbia had no clue what to do with him. I'm really interested in your thoughts about that.

His albums Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat were both certified as Triple Platinum in the US alone; his album Catch Bull at Four sold half a million copies in the first two weeks of its release. He has also earned two songwriting awards in consecutive years, for The First Cut Is the Deepest, which has been a hit single for four different artists. The great Cat Stevens converted to Islam at the height of his fame in December 1977 and adopted his Muslim name, Yusuf the following year. In 2006, he returned to music, with his first album of new songs in 28 years, entitled An Other Cup . His newest album, Roadsinger, was released on 5 May 2009.

Terry Sylvester - I Believe

Terry Sylvester was born on the 8th January 1947 in Liverpool, England. He was raised in the Allerton area of Liverpool, and lived in the next road to Paul & Mike McCartney. He left school just before his 15th birthday and worked for one year as an apprentice panel beater for Peter Harrison, George Harrison's older brother. In December 1968, Graham Nash left the Hollies to form Crosby, Stills, & Nash. The remaining members of the Hollies remembered Terry contact was made & the rest is history.
Terry also released a solo album, I Believe, produced by Alan Parsons and the Hollies producer Ron Richards. It was released in 1976 and re-released in 1997 on CD.

Forever Changes is the third album released by Love in 1967. Originally, the album was to be produced by Bruce Botnick and Neil Young, but Young bowed out due to his commitments to Buffalo Springfield. However, Young did stick with the album project long enough to arrange the track The Daily Planet. The sessions began in June 1967, with the group replaced by Los Angeles session players Billy Strange (guitar), Don Randi (piano), Hal Blaine (drums) and Carol Kaye (bass). The two tracks recorded during these sessions, Andmoreagain and The Daily Planet, were later given sparing overdubs by the actual members of Love, who felt the tracks otherwise sufficed. Botnick recalls that the use of session musicians sparked the band, and they realized they had blown it, got their act together and recorded the rest of the album. A September recording session finished the album, sweetening the mixes with horns and strings, as well as some additional piano from Don Randi, who played all the keyboard parts on the album as the band now had no keyboard player.

The album was re-released by Rhino in 2001, featuring alternate mixes, outtakes and the group's 1968 single, Your Mind and We Belong Together.

Roger McGuinn is well known as ex-leader of the Byrds and his trademark the electric twelve string guitar.
Limited Edition is a CD rich in Rickenbacker " Jingle Jangle",including five electrified folk and blues songs,seven new songs written by McGuinn and his wife Camilla and a tribute to his inspiration George Harrison, If I Needed Someone.
This CD came out after the compilation of some of his favorite Folk Den songs.
Roger McGuinn has been recording traditional folk songs for his on line project The Folk Den since 1995.(http://folkden.com) The songs are available for free download with lyrics and stories about the songs.

Kraftwerk - Autobahn (Remaster)

The release of Autobahn in 1974 saw the band moving away from the sound of their earlier albums. They invested in newer technology such as a Minimoog, helping give them a newer, disciplined sound. Autobahn would also be the last album that Conny Plank would engineer. After the commercial success of Autobahn, the band invested money into updating their studio. At this time the painter and graphic artist Emil Schult became a regular collaborator with the band, working alongside the band. Schult designed artwork in addition to later writing lyrics and accompanying the group on tour. The now regarded classic line-up of Kraftwerk was formed in 1975 for the Autobahn tour. During this time, the band were presented as a quartet, with Hütter and Schneider joined by Wolfgang Flür and Karl Bartos, hired as electronic percussionists. This quartet would be the band's public persona for its renowned output of the latter 1970's and early 1980's. Flür had already joined the band in 1973, in preparation for a television appearance to promote Kraftwerk's third album.

Mike Hugg - Somewhere

Mike Hugg was first known as a founding member of the Mann-Hugg Blues Brothers, who evolved into the 1960's group Manfred Mann. Hugg was a competent pianist and an able vibraphonist, but his basic role in Manfred Mann was that of drummer. He was credited as co-writer of the group's early hits and contributed solo compositions throughout its life, including jazzy instrumentals and wistful acid-pop. When he and Manfred Mann formed the more progressive Manfred Mann's Chapter Three, Hugg moved to electric piano and lead vocals, the latter, by his own account, purely for want of someone better. Mike Hugg released three solo albums in the 1970's, 1972's Somewhere is his first.

Emmylou Harris typically omits 1970's Gliding Bird from her discography; her first album was issued on the folk label Jubilee, which filed for bankruptcy within weeks of the LP's release. Cut before her tenure with Gram Parsons, it's a straightforward folk effort, owing more to Joni Mitchell than anything else; although most of the songs were composed by Tom Slocum, Harris' first husband, there are also a number of ill-suited covers, including Hank Williams' I Saw the Light and the Bacharach/David composition I'll Never Fall in Love Again.

In 1982 Hugh Flint left, and ex-Family drummer Rob Townsend filled the gap. They briefly disbanded later that year after recording of 1983's Brand Loyalty and a live album, but reformed soon afterwards. The Blues Band have remained a constant factor on the music scene ever since, unfazed by lack of chart success, happy to combine a regular schedule of touring and recording around their other commitments.
Paul Jones, Tom McGuinness and Rob Townsend are also members of The Manfreds, a virtual reincarnation of Manfred Mann, though because of the non-participation of the eponymous keyboard player of the 1960's outfit, legal reasons and courtesies require them to assume the name The Manfreds. Jones and Kelly sometimes play gigs as a duo, and Kelly performs with the Dave Kelly Band.
PS: Manfred Mann, Paul Jones & Tom McGuinness in one lineup again would be the nicest thing to have.

The Blues Band were formed in 1979 by Paul Jones, former lead singer and harmonica player with Manfred Mann in the 60's, and guitarist Dave Kelly. Also in the band’s first line-up were bassist Gary Fletcher, Jones’s former Manfred Mann colleague, guitarist Tom McGuinness, and drummer Hugh Flint, the two latter having been the mainstay of McGuinness Flint before.
Their first album, The Official Blues Band Bootleg Album, a mixture of blues standards and original songs – notably the Paul Jones-Tom McGuinness cut Come On In, and their long-standing stage favourite Flatfoot Sam - initially attracted no interest from major labels, so they pressed a limited run of 3,000 themselves, hand-stamped their logo on the cardboard sleeve, and signed them all. After unqualified endorsement from BBC Radio 1 and others, media interest resulted in a contract with Arista records, who gave the album an official release.

Don't Cry Now (1973) is Linda Ronstadt's fourth release. The tracks on Don't Cry Now were produced individually, some by John Boylan; some by John David Souther; and by British arranger Peter Asher, former member of the 60's folk duo Peter & Gordon. Asher was the head of A&R for Apple Records prior to his move to USA.
The album contains three songs composed by Souther, one by Randy Newman, a cover of a Neil Young ballad, one originally from the Flying Burrito Brothers, and a version of the Eagles' Desperado, which the band had released earlier that year.

Cherry People were a Psychedelic pop and later hard rock group that formed from remnants of The English Setters. The band is best known for their semi-hit single And Suddenly, which barely missed the top 40, and including guitarist Punky Meadows and later Barry Brandt who would join Bux in 1972 respective Angel in 1975.

We Came to Play was the first and only album released by Bux in 1976. The album was originally recorded in 1973 but Capitol decided not to release it. In 1976, however when lead guitarist Punky Meadows and bassist Mickie Jones had success with their band Angel, Capitol tried to cash in and finally released We Came to Play. The album is an interesting affair blending hard rock and the standard boogie band approach with mixed results. White Lightning, which later became a featured cut on Angel's third album, is included here with different lyrics.
Angel's first album (1975) was the self-titled Angel and consisted of guitarist Punky Meadows, bassist Mickie Jones, vocalist Frank Dimino, keyboardist Gregg Giuffria, and drummer Barry Brandt. This lineup would hold for the following two albums, Helluva Band and On Earth as It Is in Heaven.
1976's Helluva Band is the second album by Angel. It explores the heavier side of progressive rock and includes their most progressive song, The Fortune.
On Earth As It Is In Heaven is their third album. This marks the last album with Mickie Jones who was Angel's bass player since 1974. It was produced by Eddie Kramer and recorded in an actual castle in the Hollywood Hills. This album marked the shift from progressive and symphonic hard rock to a more mainstream hard rock approach, with the exception of Cast the First Stone and Just A Dream which are very similar in sound to Angel and Helluva Band. In fact, these two was written during the Helluva Band sessions. Mickie Jones passed away in San Dimas, CA September 5, 2009 after a long battle with liver cancer.
Giuffria was composed of Gregg Giuffria, David Glen Eisley, Craig Goldy, Chuck Wright, and Alan Krigger. Giuffria's debut album was released in 1984. It's peak position on Billboard was #26 in March, 1985. It was the most successful album from the Giuffria releases.

Billy Swan's role was, originally, largely invisible. He learned drums, piano, and guitar and also began writing songs. Lover Please, was recorded by Mirt Mirly & the Rhythm Stoppers. Swan's first big break was in 1962 when Clyde McPhatter recorded Lover Please, that quickly became a Top Ten Hit. Allowing Swan to write hit country songs for numerous artists, including Conway Twitty, Waylon Jennings, and Mel Tillis. Swan's first album included the popular song I Can Help, a rockabilly number that topped both the Billboard top 100 and country charts in 1974. Swan recorded the song in two takes with an electric organ that Chris Kristofferson and Rita Coolidge had bought for him as a wedding present. In 1986 he continued as part of a band called Black Tie, along with Randy Meisner, Jimmy Griffin, David Kemper, David Miner and David Mansfield which recorded the album When the Night Falls. Swan continued to tour with Kristofferson, and has recorded two albums with Randy Meisner. Swan recorded a new album at the original Sun Records studios, Like Elvis Used to Do, in 2000.

While singer/songwriter Rick Roberts is perhaps best known for his work with country-rock pioneers The Flying Burrito Brothers and late 70s hit makers Firefall ,in between those two endeavors he recorded these two albums for A & M Records.
While hardly setting the charts on fire they remain good examples of the kind of appealing country-rock The Eagles would later take to the top of the charts.
When Chris Hillman left the Flying Burrito Brothers to join Manassas in 1971 Rick Roberts lead the Burrito's for a European tour before recording his debut solo album:Windmills.
David Aderle was assigned to be the producer and the cream of the L.A. country-rock community centered around the Troubadour was recruited.
They were all "friends" of Rick Roberts and very good musicians and they came up with a lot of ideas that added a great deal to the album.
The album's tittle derives from the dedication to a Dutch/American girl Rick Roberts met while touring the Netherlands with the Burrito's.
The musicians on Windmills are:Don Henley,Bernie Leadon,Randy Meisner,Jackson Browne,Al Perkins,Joe Lala,Chris Hillman,Dallas Taylor,David Crosby,Mother Hen,Byron Berline,Lee Sklar,Mike Utley,Marc Benno and of course Rick Roberts.

Settling in Boulder Colorado Rick Roberts recorded "She is a song" at a small independent studio.
Fresh from Manassas Chris Hillman assumed production duties.
Rick Roberts called on local players to grace the second album including Joe Walsh's Barnstorm and members of Poco.

Zephyr's second album (1972 ) featured Firefall's Jock Bartley in place of Tommy Bolin, the replacement of Bobby Berge and John Faris, and one of the few known recorded appearances of Bobby Notkoff, other than his work with Neil Young, for whom he created the heart wrenching violin break on Running Dry. Lead singer Candy Givens passed away already, and this album is perhaps her most passionate legacy.

Morning, a fine Los Angeles based group, formed after Jay Lewis, also known as Jay Donnellan, had been departed from Love. Morning's 1970 debut is an underrated folk influenced gem. It has a crisp, yet often sleepy sound, which is at its best on And I'm Gone and Sleepy Eyes. The album closes with a 90 second country gem Dirt Roads.

Flying Burrito Brothers - Flying Again
After Eddie Tickner, the former Burrito manager received booking interest from a number of clubs, founding members Pete Kleinow and Chris Ethridge agreed to re-form the Burritos. They hired Byrds drummer Gene Parsons, Joel Scott Hill from Canned Heat, and Gib Guilbeau to round out the refried Flying Burrito Brothers. Tickner then got the new band a deal with Columbia Records, of which Flying Again was their label debut in 1975. Line-up: Gib Guilbeau, Gene Parsons, Pete Kleinow, Joel Scott Hill, Chris Ethridge.

Flying Burrito Brothers - Airborne
After the release of Flying Again bassist and founding member Chris Ethridge left the band and was replaced for Byrds bassist Skip Battin. This left Pete Kleinow as the only original member in the band. 1976's Airborne was the band's second and last album for Columbia Records, as the label would drop the Burritos due to the lack of commercial success just after this album's release.

Sierra - Sierra
Why not trying something new? In 1977 the Burritos changed their name to Sierra and the music style to the then popular Eagles/Poco vein. To their credit, the band wrote their own material, collaborating on one song with Felix Pappalardi(ex Cream, ex-Mountain). The first record announcement was in October 1977 and they toured as Sierra through December of 1977.

Rio Reiser - Rio I.

Rio Reiser was a German rock musician and singer of the famous rock group Ton Steine Scherben. He was born Ralph Christian Möbius in Berlin and died at the age of 46 in the little German town of Fresenhagen. In the early 1970's he participated in the squatter scene, for which he wrote the famous Rauchhaussong. The band's original name can be translated as Clay Stones Shards, making both, a reference to Reiser's favorites The Rolling Stones and a political view. The band soon became very popular with the squatter scene, left-wing students and workers' movement and was invited to numerous political events to provide the soundtrack to demonstrations, parties and rallies across Germany which often inspired the audience to translate the message into action afterwards. In 1985 Reiser and the band finally split, partly due to a feeling that is was time to move on, but to a large extent because of a desastrous financial situation. Reiser had a large debt with the group, but his early solo career went so well that he was free from debt in a short time.

His first solo record-album was called Rio I. and included the popular song König von Deutschland (King of Germany). The album was produced by Anette Humpe (ex-Ideal), a renowned German music producer who had already produced Reiser's very first solo single, Dr. Sommer, some time ago when he was in need of cash and had asked her for support. The song König von Deutschland became one of the real hits of Reiser, has been covered and cited by many artists ever since and is still known among most people in Germany. Other hit singles of the first album included the love song Für immer und dich and the melancholic Junimond. Reiser could not repeat the commercial success of the first album, nevertheless he released five further studio albums until his death, most of them highly appraised by the critics.

Mud were an English band, formed in 1968, best remembered for their string of singles throughout the mid 70's, including Tiger Feet which was the UK's best-selling single of 1974. After teaming up with writers Chinn/Chapman, this good-time band had a noteworthy run of hits, including three number ones.

Byrds - Farther Along (Remaster)

Don't have posted a Byrds related share for some time. So here's the very last one.
Farther Along was released in 1971. Well aware of the stinging criticism that Byrdmaniax was receiving, The Byrds promptly dispensed with Terry Melcher, headed off to London in the summer of 1971 and quickly cut a new album, producing it themselves. Unfortunately, the damage inflicted by Byrdmaniax was not completely undone, and the Byrds' dwindling commercial fortunes continued - Farther Along went largely unnoticed upon release, stalling at 152 in the U.S. and failing to appear on the UK charts and disappearing quickly.
It would also turn out to be the last Byrds studio album with its latter day line-up. By 1972, Roger McGuinn had broken up the Columbia Byrds to facilitate a reunion of the original 1965 group with David Crosby, Gene Clark, Chris Hillman, and Michael Clarke and a "comeback" album. Unfortunately this was never done.

In the months following the release of Farther Along, the Columbia Byrds would record four more songs, all McGuinn originals; these included versions of Draggin, My New Woman, Born to Rock and Roll, and Bag Full of Money. Only the latter two tracks seem to have survived in the Columbia Byrds versions, and were added to the 2000 reissue of Farther Along, in addition to a version of Lost My Drivin' Wheel, with McGuinn backed by a session band. Besides McGuinn, it is disputed just who plays on these tracks, although at least Clarence White and Pete Kleinow are in evidence.

British Lions are the follow-up band to Mott The Hoople and Medicine Head. After Nigel Benjamin left Mott it took a long time to find a replacement. Morgan Fisher worked for a while with the British band Medicine Head, contributing to their 1977 album and helping out on their tour. They too were on the point of breaking up, so Morgan suggested to John Fiddler that they join forces.

Marc Ellington-Rains - Reins of Changes

A long time ago I bought the vinyl LP and later on CD too, because Chris Hillman,Sneaky Pete and members of Fairport Convention were among the backing players.
I knew and know nothing about Marc Ellington but if memory serves me well he lived at a castle and became later a mayor and was known in the British Folk music scene.
If you can get used to his voice you got here a fine album with some good pedal steel guitar by Sneaky Pete and harmony singing by Chris Hillman and others and guitar by Richard Thompson.
Marc Ellington made at least some more LP's way back in 1970's ,but I think this was his best.

Morgan Fisher - Ivories

From 1966 to 1970 Morgan Fisher played the organ with the Soul Survivors, who in 1967 were renamed The Love Affair. Between 1972 and 1973 he formed the progressive rock band named Morgan, with singer Tim Staffel (the vocalist with the band Smile, who later became Queen). From 1973 to 1976, he joined seminal British glam rockers, Mott The Hoople. Ivories is Morgan Fisher’s solo album for RCA Italy, recorded in 1972. This album gave Morgan a chance to work in the area somewhere between the Morgan band’s music and the musical influences he’d been passionately absorbing for years - modern classical music, film scores from France and Italy, and electronic music. By the time it was released Morgan had remixed it and added two extra tracks and bizarre snippets of real-life dialogue recorded during his travels and studio sessions with Mott and British Lions. One of Morgan’s most cutting-edge albums, it offers a glimpse into his and creative musical imagination.

Bläck Fööss - Roxy

The Bläck Fööss is a folk and beatles inspired band from cologne, germany. They are around there since the early 70's and so they have a 30 year history. The Band should be relative unknown outside of their country. Roxy is their 1996 release. The lyrics ain't true german, but the dialect spoken in their locality, really funny. The titlesong tells us a story from the 70's, when a huge count of cinemas were changed to supermarkets.
Warning this isn't really Krautrock, but I had to supply a label.

Here we have another British Invasion group from the early sixties, hugely overseen today. 1969's Hollies sing Hollies was made when Graham Nash already had decided to leave the Hollies to fund Crosby, Stills & Nash. It is the second album featuring Terry Sylvester.

In the late 1970's singers Stevie Vann (aka Stevie Lange) and ex-Earthband singer Chris Thompson met when Vann was performing background vocals for a Manfred Mann's Earthband album. McGuinness Flint was formed in 1970 by Tom McGuinness, former member with Manfred Mann, and Hugh Flint, drummer with John Mayall; with Dennis Coulson(vocals, keyboards), and songwriters BennyGallagher and Graham Lyle.
Their first single When I'm Dead and Gone reached No.2 in the UK, and the debut album McGuinness Flint also made the Top ten of the UK Albums Chart. The follow-up single, Malt and Barley Blues, was a UK No.5 hit in 1971, but the group floundered under the pressures of instant success, being required to record a second album and reproduce their recorded sound adequately on stage, which resulted in disappointing concerts.
The second album Happy Birthday Ruthy Baby failed to chart, as did the title track when released as a single. Gallagher and Lyle quit towards the end of 1971 to record as a duo. The group then recruited bassist Dixie Dean, and recorded Lo and Behold, an album of not been recorded and released Bob Dylan songs, credited to Coulson, Dean, McGuinness, Flint, and issued in 1972. The single Let The People Go was banned by the BBC as it related to the Ulster crisis. Coulson left and was replaced by Lou Stonebridge and Jim Evans. This new line-up recorded two further albums, Rainbow (1973) and C’est La Vie (1974), but interest had evaporated, and they disbanded in 1975.

Over the years Loggins & Messina produced 5 original material albums, plus one album of covers of other artists' material, and two live albums. They sold 16 million records and were the most successful duo of the early 1970s. A greatest-hits album, The Best Of Friends, would be released a year after the duo had separated. The later studio albums often found both Loggins & Messina more as two solo artists on the same record rather than as a genuine partnership. As both Loggins and Messina noted in 2005, their collaboration eventually became more a competition - a frequent, almost-inevitable dynamic of show business duos. Never really a team of true equals due to the teacher - apprentice nature of their music experience levels, the pair had by early 1976 quietly but amicably parted to pursue solo careers, following the release of 1976's Native Sons. Messina found solo success elusive but Loggins went on to become one of the biggest hitmakers of the 1980s.

Jim Messina was a member of Buffalo Springfield, then an original member of Poco, before he joined with Kenny Loggins to form the duo, Loggins & Messina. His first LP was released sometime in '64 and was credited to Jim Messina and His Jesters and it was called The Dragsters. This is the LP that was reissued on CD on the semi-legit Euro label Surf in the '90s. It's great stuff, 14 songs, 11 of them written by Messina. The covers are: an uptempo version of The Breeze and I, and surf-guitar-led versions of fifties instro hits Honky Tonk and Raunchy.

Jim began working with Buffalo Springfield around 1966 as a recording engineer on the second album entitled Buffalo Springfield Again. In 1967, he started on the third album entitled Last Time Around as an engineer. During the course of the production, he was asked by the group to produce the band. Shortly thereafter, Jim replaced Bruce Palmer, the bass player and toured and recorded with the band up until completion and release of the record. After the Buffalo Springfield, Richie Furay and Jim formed Poco and began producing demos and searching for a record label. On December 5, 1968, Poco signed with Epic Records, a subsidiary of Columbia Records, and began recording the first Poco album. Sittin' In is the first album by Loggins & Messina, released in 1971. It began as a solo album by Kenny Loggins; Jim Messina was with Columbia Records, serving as an independent producer when he met Loggins. In the course of producing Loggins' work, Messina provided vocals and guitar, leading to the album's full title.

Their second album was released in 1972. Following on the success of their first album, this album built on the strengths of their debut outing. It also became the true introduction of the team, not as singles playing together, but rather as a team that played as one. It featured two songs that charted, with Your Mama Don't Dance reaching its peak at #4, their highest charting single. The album itself charted at #16.

Full Sail, their third album released in 1973. The album showed the versatility of the duo, with everything from 1950's retro to sappy ballads. The singles where My Music and Watching The River Run. The album reached #10 on the Pop Charts.

Yer' Album is the first album by the James Gang, released in 1969. The group had written some material, but they were still something of a cover band. The album features Stephen Stills' Bluebird and the Yardbirds' Lost Women. This is the only album featuring the bassist Tom Kriss.
In 1970, the band released its second album Rides Again, which included the single Funk #49, as well as the classic The Bomber. By this time, Dale Peters had replaced Kriss on bass. The band opened for The Who during a tour of Britain.
Thirds is the third studio album by the James Gang, released in 1971, and is the last studio album led by Joe Walsh. Walk Away was released as a single, making the Top 40, the best placement of a James Gang single. The Walsh period of the band came to a close with the release of the live album James Gang Live in Concert.

John Stewart first gained recognition as a songwriter when he was a member of the Kingston Trio. In 1961 he joined the Kingston Trio, replacing Dave Guard, and stayed with them until 1967.
1996's Live At The Turf Inn, Scotland reunites John with Buffy Ford for the first time on record since 1968. On 19 songs, with no more accompaniment than John's 12-string guitar, John and Buffy revisit masterpieces from throughout John's career, peppered with three new Stewart compositions and several traditional songs.

Live 'n' Kickin' is a the live album by West, Bruce & Laing, released in 1974. It was the band's final album, as they disbanded shortly before its release. The album is noteworthy in that three of its four songs were not released in studio versions by the band.
Play With Fire is a song originally written and performed by The Rolling Stones, although West, Bruce and Laing's rendition uses the music for Love is Worth the Blues, a song they previously wrote and recorded for their 1972 debut.
Politician is a song Jack Bruce originally wrote and performed with his late 60's bandmates Cream.
Powerhouse Sod is a previously unreleased song written by the band, featuring a bass guitar solo by Jack.

The album features a black-and-white comic strip on its front and back covers depicting the alleged turn-ons of the band's members - Leslie West's is food, Jack Bruce's alcohol, and Corky Laing's sex - as pursued by various poltergeists representing each of the three. The album's front cover drawing shows the three band members, each pictured with their poltergeist alter-egos.
Although not the hit that West, Bruce and Laing's debut album Why Dontcha was, Whatever Turns You On was a moderate success.

Gary Rossington made a name for himself as guitarist with his old bandmates in Lynyrd Skynyrd. The band's accomplishments included a devoted fan base, critical acclaim, and several gold and platinum albums. All that ended on October 20, 1977, when the band's chartered airplane crashed in a Mississippi swamp. Not to be deterred, Gary formed the Rossington Collins Band and The Rossington Band throughout the 80's. This is the Rossington Bands release from 1988, Love Your Man.

Grobschnitt - Jumbo

Grobschnitt formed in 1970. Originally an eight-piece band, Grobschnitt released their self-titled album on Brain in 1972, before paring down into their standard five-piece unit. Their first record is stylistically very different from the symphonic sound that became their hallmark.
In 1975, Wolfgang Jäger alias Popo joined Grobschnitt as a bassist and the group released Jumbo. Jumbo fully realized the symphonic style the band had developed, featuring lush keyboard usage. Jumbo were released twice, with german und english lyrics. Both are included on this CD.

Ex-Eagles member Bernie Leadon is living history in todays view.
Leadons true love lay in country music, as he began playing in a California bluegrass outfit in 1962, the Scottsville Squirrel Barkers together with Chris Hillman (see +Byrds Fame).
After relocating to Florida by the mid '60s, Leadon joined the folk band, Hearts and Flowers, appearing on their second and final recording, 1968's Of Horses, Kids and Forgotten Women, before forming a new group, Dillard and Clark.
But once more, Leadon's tenure with the group would be fleeting, as he played on all of their 1968 debut, The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard & Clark, and only a few select tracks on their sophomore effort, 1969's Through the Morning, Through the Night. Up next for Leadon was a brief stretch with Linda Ronstadt's backing band, the Corvettes, before joining up with one of the first ever country rock outfits, the Flying Burrito Brothers, in the fall of 1969. Leadon remained a member of the Burritos for a few years - appearing on such albums as 1970's Burrito Deluxe, 1971's self-titled release, and 1972's Last of the Red Hot Burritos. Upon leaving the Burritos, Leadon signed on once more as a member of Linda Ronstadt's backing band, which included guitarist/singer Glenn Frey and drummer/singer Don Henley. Shortly thereafter, the trio decided to form their own group, the Eagles, which was rounded out with the addition of ex-Poco bassist Randy Meisner. The band perfected and popularized the Poco country rock style. The Leadon-era of the group lasted for a total of four albums (which many longtime Eagles fans consider the group's best) - 1972's self-titled debut, 1973's Desperado, 1974's On the Border, and 1975's One of These Nights - on which Leadon penned such underrated gems as My Man and Bitter Creek among others. But the band's never ending and grueling touring/recording schedule began to wear Leadon out, to the point where the guitarist decided to leave the group as a self-described act of survival. In 1977, the guitarist formed the Bernie Leadon/Michael Georgiades Band, who issued a lone album the same year, Natural Progressions, before splitting up. The '80s saw Leadon back Chris Hillman for a pair of releases, 1982's Morning Sky and 1984's Desert Rose, and form a Christian Bluegrass group, Ever Call Ready, who issued a lone self-titled release in 1985(->see +Byrds Fame).
Two years later, Leadon replaced John McEuen in the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band - appearing on the recordings Hold On (1987), Workin' Band (1988), and Will the Circle Be Unbroken, Vol. 2 (1989). Shortly after the dawn of the '90s, Leadon launched the novelty act Run C & W(->see +Eagles Fame), which specialized in doing country versions of rap songs (and issued two releases, 1993's Into the Twangy First Century and 1995's Row vs. Wade). In 2003, he released his solo CD, Mirror.

Emmylou Harris - White Shoes

After Neil's multiselling album Home before dark it's time to take a look on how it all began. So here are the two very first original albums plus the remastered early classics sampler of the same decade.
The Feel Of Neil Diamond is Neil Diamonds debut album released in 1966. It includes his first three big hits, Solitary Man, Cherry Cherry and I Got The Feelin' Oh No No.

Just for You is Neil Diamonds second album released in 1967. At some point or another, every single track on it was released either as an A-side or a B-side of a single, with many of them becoming big hits. You Got To Me , Girl, You'll Be A Woman Soon, Thank the Lord for the Night Time, Red Red Wine and Shilo. Curiously, the year-old hit Cherry Cherry (from Diamond's first LP) also appears here, whilst the then-current hit Kentucky Woman does not. It's his final album for the Bang label.

1978's Early Classics is a re-compilation of Neils singles, notable album tracks and of course the missing Kentucky Woman.

Skip Battin - Skip(1973)

Clyde 'Skip' Battin was a successful bass player probably best known for his work with The Byrds from 1970 to 1973. By then he was the oldest member of The Byrds, with whom he recorded three albums and toured extensively.
After the breakup of the Byrds, Battin recorded a solo album in 1973 named Skip. Afterwards, he was invited to join the New Riders of the Purple Sage, with whom he recorded four albums from 1974 to 1976.

Mott The Hoople - Reunion

Mott the Hoople, the British glam-rock band, are reuniting to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the band’s 1969 birth. Mott has scheduled three shows in October 2009 at London’s famed HMV Apollo, formerly the Hammersmith. The concerts mark the first time the original lineup Ian Hunter, Mick Ralphs, Verden Allen, Dale Griffin and Overend Watts has performed together in 35 years. They split in 1974, even though the band with new members would release two more albums without Ian Hunter or Mick Ralphs. Mick Ralphs went on to form Bad Company with Free singer Paul Rodgers and Ian Hunter enjoyed a decent solo career together with Mick Ronson. No word whether Mott’s reunion will be limited to the Apollo shows or if a tour is in the works.

The Doc Thomas Group(Remaster)

From the very tangled tree of about a dozen '60s bands that fed into the eventual formation of Mott the Hoople, the Doc Thomas Group were one of the most important, chiefly because they actually released an album. Future Mott the Hoople guitarist Mick Ralphs and bassist Pete Watts were both on board when the group recorded their sole LP (released only in Italy, where they were based for a time) in late 1966. Future Mott drummer Dale Griffin joined the band in the spring of 1967 which featured Stan Tippins as lead singer. The self-titled LP consisted entirely of R&B/soul covers, executed derivatively and just about competently, in the style of mod bands of the period. The Doc Thomas Group struggled on until 1968, changing their name to Silence with the addition of organist Verden Allen; from that point, it was only a matter of recruiting Ian Hunter to replace Tippins to create Mott the Hoople in 1969. The extremely rare Doc Thomas Group album was reissued on CD in 1998, on a disc that also included a Silence reunion session recorded in 1990.

Originally released in 1974, it featured a refocused band. Mick Ralphs went on in Bad Company together with Free singer Paul Rogers. His place were took by Ariel Bender (aka Luther Grosvenor) from Spooky Tooth.

Ian Hunter - You're Never Alone with a Schizophrenic
This is the fourth solo album by Ian Hunter. The album were released in 1979 and features members of Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band as the backing band. It is considered by many to be Ian Hunter's best solo album.

Bee Gees - Idea(Remaster)

Idea was the Bee Gees third album, released in August, 1968. The album sold over a million copies worldwide. This album features Such a Shame, the only Bee Gees song where lead vocals aren't sung by (nor written by) a Gibb brother. Such A Shame was included on the British version of the album but deleted from the American issue, which in turn included their recent hit I've Gotta Get a Message to You not on the UK LP. When the album was issued on CD in the 1980s, both tracks were included. In 2006, Idea were reissued with both stereo and mono mixes on one disc and a bonus disc of unreleased songs, non-album tracks, and alternate mixes.

John David Souther - Discography

Souther first cut Longbranch Pennywhistle, together with Glen Frey(see: Eagles Fame for this album). After recording the eponymous John David Souther album in 1972, Souther formed the SHF Band with Chris Hillman and Richie Furay(see: Poco or Byrds Fame for these 2 albums).
Souther is probably best known for his well-crafted songwriting abilities, especially in the field of country rock. He co-wrote some of the biggest hits for the Eagles. How Long, which appears on the Eagles Long Road Out Of Eden was written by Souther and originally recorded on his first solo album in 1972. He also produced Linda Ronstadt's Don't Cry Now, and wrote songs for several of Ronstadt's multi-platinum albums, including Faithless Love from Heart Like A Wheel and White Rhythm and Blues included in her Living in the USA album. He also recorded several notable duets with Ronstadt, including Hasten Down the Wind, Prisoner in Disguise, and Sometimes You Can't Win. He wrote Run Like a Thief, which appeared on Home Plate by Bonnie Raitt. His biggest hit as a solo artist was his 1979 Orbison-influenced song You're Only Lonely. A collaboration with James Taylor called Her Town Too reached number 11 on the Billboard Pop Singles chart. On October 14, 2008, Souther released If The World Was You, his first new release in 25 years.

The group had been moving toward a more contemporary sound and this was their first opportunity to put it on a full length album.Before the band recorded Wheatstraw suite Doug Dillard left because he was unhappy with the group's direction.(He then toured live on electric banjo with the Byrds in 1968 and teamed up with ex Byrd Gene Clark to form Dillard & Clark).
Doug Dillard was replaced by Herb Pedersen,bringing along not only his " Nashville rhythm guitar(as it credited on the sleeve) but also his tenor vocals which fit in well with the group's harmonies.Pedersen ended up splitting the lead vocals with Rodney Dillard on the album.

Wheatstraw suite was fated to be more of a cult album among listeners, and an influential recording among musicians, than it was a big seller.Nevertheless the Dillards had another change to continue moving into progressive directions on:

The Dillards- Copperfields 1970

Copperfields was a continuation of Wheatstraw suite's spirit but less of a groundbreaking landmark, it was still just as accomplished ,electic and enjoyable as its predecessor. Although the sound was pretty much in the same mold as that of Wheatstraw suite there were a few changes.
Paul York was now with the band on drums and the only session player was fiddler Byron Berline.
Copperfields was the last album that the Dillards made on Elektra and like Wheatstraw suite its commercial impact was modest, even if in hindsight the music actuallly sounds more accessible than some other country rock to come from Southern California in the 1960s and early 1970s.
The Dillards would experience their greatest commercial success with their first post Elektra album.

The Dillards- Roots and branches 1972

When they signed with Anthem Records in 1972 and released Roots and Branches Pedersen had departed to work as a vocal arranger ( on Trio for example) and was replaced by Billy Ray Latham. He was much more a bluegrass man( played in the Kentucky Colonels and founder member of Country Gazette).
Latham made the Dillards somewhat return to their rural roots,however Paul York was still there and the album sounds like an attempt to move further into the rock main stream,which worked because its the only Dillards album to reach the USA chart,almost reaching the Top 75.

The Dillards- Tribute to an American Duck 1973

Although is was not that dissimilar to its immediate predecessor it completely missed the chart.
Mitch Jayne was not much involved as a participant although he co-wrote six of the songs.Around 15 performers are listed including John Hartford.

Nothing much was then heard of the Dillards until the late 1970s when they made a few albums. In the 1990s the Dillards were still recording.

Jim Dickson tried to get A&M Records to finance and release a banjo instrumental album of Doug Dillard with some new ideas.
After A&M passes they independently recorded what was to be " The Banjo Album".
